Session 1: Understanding and Supporting Neurodiversity in Individual and Group Singing – Katie Teage

Supporting neurodiverse singers involves creating a flexible, inclusive, and structured environment. In this presentation, you’ll explore and experience practical strategies for singing leaders and teachers to foster this supportive atmosphere. We will discuss approaches for providing predictable routines and structure, allowing extra processing time, and being patient with varied response speeds. Additionally, we’ll cover how personalised learning techniques—such as rhythm-based or movement exercises—can help maintain focus, boost engagement, and enhance enjoyment for all participants.

Katie Teage is a versatile educator, choir conductor, and soprano for the London Vocal Project. She has 23 years’ experience in primary education as a teacher, music specialist and assistant head. Katie presents school concerts and advises hubs, schools, music colleges and the BBC, making her an expert in music education. Katie has conducted various choirs—from community ensembles to the Royal College of Music Junior Department Choir—arranging music tailored to each group’s unique needs to ensure a rewarding musical experience for every singer.

Ley Adewole

Session 2: Stylistic and Cultural Awareness in Black Music – Ley Adewole

An opportunity to gain an awareness in the stylistic techniques that allow us to create and deliver a more authentic gospel, soul and jazz sound when we sing this style of music. Also we will examine how the sound of this popular style of Music of Black Origin (MOBO) has evolved from the last couple centuries to our present day.

Ask your questions about cultural appropriation when singing black musics. Get practical experience of appropriate stylistic features of Gospel and Soul singing in a practical workshop.

Award-winning gospel singer, vocal coach and choir director Ley Adewole, has worked with top recording artists such as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, George Michael, Take That, Tom Jones, Blur and The Beautiful South, to name a few.

Her roots like all great, black female soul divas are firmly established in the church.

Ley spent several months travelling throughout the United States touring as a British Female Gospel Artist. She’s had fantastic opportunities to work with exceptional teachers and veterans in gospel music such as the amazing Iris Stevenson who is the main inspiration behind ‘Sister Act 2’ She has also been privileged to take part in Britain’s most prestigious event of the year, The Royal Variety Show.

Ley Adewole has lived in Falmouth, Cornwall since 2000, with her husband where they have raised their 3 children.

She has partnered with Musical Director and Producer Richard Penrose for over 20 years. Together they have founded the Falmouth Community Gospel Choir (FCGC) in 2013 which began as a 10 week Gospel workshop and together they also provide inspirational soulful performances at wedding ceremonies that make a special day even more extra special.
