An Integrative Approach to Vocal Health: Ethics, Knowledge and Empowerment
with Jenna Brown

Sunday 26 February 2023

1532 Arts Centre, Bristol Grammar School, Bristol

This session will explore how singing teachers can navigate the boundaries of trans-disciplinary, vocal health aware practice. It explores how practical strategies can be applied ethically within a person-centred context to develop personalised, embodied learning that develops the whole singer: mind, body and voice.

Jenna Brown is a mezzo-soprano performing as a soloist in concert and recital, as well as in choirs. She teaches singers of all ages 1:1 and in groups, working as teacher, vocal coach and conductor. She has expertise in inclusive education and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in respect of this work. Jenna has a person-centred, integrative biopsychosocial approach and draws on cross-disciplinary strategies. She increasingly works collaboratively with other voice professionals to help clients with vocal rehabilitation and is currently working towards BAPAM recognition for this work. Jenna has a developing research profile and presents her peer-reviewed research internationally at conferences and in print. She is currently researching holistic strategies for voice rehabilitation that empower the voice rehabilitation specialist singing teacher to assist students, whilst maintaining professional and ethical boundaries.
