Conference Speakers

Coral Gould

Unless you are an extremely new member of AOTOS, Coral will need no introduction. She has been a member of the Association since its first days, and has given many years of dedicated service as both Secretary and Membership Secretary. Her teaching career has been spent in both independent and state schools. At present, besides her teaching, she is extremely busy as a Festival Adjudicator, and is also an examiner for the London College of Music. She has recently published “Try Humming It”, in which she has distilled a life-time’s experience as a singing teacher.

Beryl Foster

Beryl Foster is a graduate of London University and studied singing in Colchester and at the Royal College of Music. As well as all the usual repertoire, since 1980 she has made a particular study of the songs of Grieg and other Norwegian composers, giving recitals, lectures and workshops in Britain, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and China. She is also a private teacher and festival adjudicator. In 2007 her definitive book “Songs of Edvard Grieg” was published to great acclaim.

Håkan Vramsmo

Håkan Vramsmo was born in Sweden. In 1999 he won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, having previously studied in Sweden, Amsterdam, France and Germany. He graduated in 2001 with distinction and immediately went on to sing at the opening night of the BBC Proms in Vaughan Williams's A Serenade to Music. Håkan takes a great interest in song repertoire, and has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, the Aldeburgh, Bath, Leamington and Newbury Spring Festivals, recorded for BBC Radio 3 and Stockholm Radio and given concerts in Dublin, Sweden, Denmark and France.

Ron Morris

Ron Morris, speech therapist, audiologist and counter tenor, initially graduated from the University of Queensland in 1985 with an honours degree in speech therapy and audiology. It was during that time that he commenced singing studies and singing with St Stephen’s Cathedral Choir. He completed a Master of Music Studies (Vocal Performance) in 2001 at Griffith University’s Conservatorium of Music , and is at present enrolled in a PhD programme focussing on breathing for singing. He also sings at St John’s Cathedral, performs regularly both as a soloist and as a member of Opera Queensland’s Chorus and continues to work as a speech therapist and audiologist with an interest in voice disorders and in working with the deaf.

Janice Chapman

Janice Chapman is a singing teacher of world renown. She will be well known to very many of our members already through her book “Singing and the Teaching of Singing – A Holistic Approach to Classical Voice”, as well as through her work at the vocal faculties of both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and at the Royal Academy of Music. She was an early pioneer in the field of multi-disciplinary work in vocal health, being a member of the founding committee of the Voice Research Society in 1985, and has been deeply involved in the Society’s successor, the British Voice Association, over many years.
