Angela Hickey studied violin and singing at the Guildhall School of Music and joined Glyndebourne Festival Opera on graduation. She has appeared as a principal soloist with all the major opera companies in the UK and many others in Europe. As well as a long and varied career in opera, she has sung regularly on the concert platform at home and abroad as soloist in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, among many others.
She has been teaching for more than twenty years, passing on the knowledge gained not only from her own teachers and the conductors, directors and composers with whom she has worked, but also from her own performing experience. She is regularly involved in auditioning, adjudicating and master classes. She is a vocal tutor at the University of Bristol and also has a large private practice. She is a member of the British Voice Association and the Association of English Speakers and Singers as well as AOTOS, and has served on the AOTOS Council as the South West Area Representative and a Councillor at Large.
